DVD Review: Yuck, and in a good way!! 64%

Update February 28, 2009: I originally gave this 50% but after watching it again, it's a little more enjoyable, so it gets 64%.
Once in a while, I depart from my states of rage against bad products or praising stuff that I dearly cherish and go straight for silliness. This will be one of those rare reviews where I go into silly mode.
Okay, as stated in my previous Cool Devices review, I don't really watch hentai. I like to watch it on occasion for some cheap laughs. I only watch the stuff from the early 90's because many of it is so bad it's funny in and of itself as opposed to hentai nowadays like Bible Black (yuck) where everything is so polished visually speaking and the series tries way too hard to be a legitimate viewing experience, forgetting that it's just cinematic junk food and therefore not meant to be taken seriously.
If you've read my previous Cool Devices review, you'll know that despite being completely revolted against one set of episodes, I'm not completely prejudiced against the whole series. Before puking out my Subway lunch from watching the reprehensible "Slave Warrior Maya" episodes, I watched "Seek 1 and 2" (on this disc) and was laughing pretty hard at it. Obviously, this sort of stuff in real life is completely loathsome; but in hentai, it's quite funny because the whole concept of animated men and women donning latex and abusing their female slaves in many ways is humorous in and of itself. This is basically one of those "so bad it's good" sort of deals. It's pretty bad but at the same time you're having a good time poking fun at it; as opposed to wanting to dismember the people responsible for making it. This particular set of Cool Devices episodes is somewhat enjoyable because it's cinematic junk food and knows it. This is cheap, filthy entertainment at its best. This stuff belongs on Mystery Science Theater 3000 because it's so ridiculous.
Basically, a dominatrix named Saki and her masked master have kidnapped a virgin girl named Marino and maker her their slave. They abuse and humiliate her in lots of ways, though the best part has to be where Saki makes Marino lick her bum and says to her "As a slave you must be glad to do it." Marino is reluctant to do it but Saki's master forces her, and she obeys. Saki says "Yeah!! Make more sloppy sounds as you lick it!!" I nearly laughed my lungs out at that scene, it's also quite weird that the Jackson Pollock-like background art is quite reminiscent to that from Ren and Stimpy, particularly from any scene where Ren goes completely psycho. Part 2 of this episode has Saki and her master throwing a sex party in their mansion and I was laughing hysterically when they showed all of the scantly clad party guests wearing ridiculous masks and headgear; one guy had a cat mask on and one woman had sunglasses and a witch hat, need I say more? There's really weird stuff particularly in this episode, especially when Saki attaches electro shock probes on the "private areas" of her slaves and horribly shocks them. There's even some bestiality; a pack of dogs is unleashed to chase down Marino, you think they're going to rip her to pieces but they end up tearing off her clothes and underwear, licking her "down there." I let out a huge "WTF" type of laugh when I saw that. There was a pretty entertaining scene were one of Saki's slaves spits on her and tells her to "Drop her queen routine," only to be severely whipped by Saki. There's even some parts where Saki has flashbacks of her transformation into being a part of the S & M lifestyle and begins to lust for pain again, which was mildly interesting though nothing quite remarkable. Throughout both parts of "Seek," I was laughing pretty hard at how awful everything was in this visual adventure.
Okay, there are some parts to "Seek" 1 and 2 that are good for legitimate reasons and not just the whole "so bad it's good" sort of thing. For one, the music is quite good for hentai; it's typical early 90's keyboard synthesizer fare not far removed from the classic Sonic games and some cool guitars thrown in for good measure. It's pretty remarkable how people making such a low budget film were able to get some pretty enjoyable music, I surely wouldn't mind having MP3s of this on my MP3 player or computer. The animation and artwork are quite remarkable as well for a hentai made in 1995 (hentai was a really low budget thing back then). It also happens to be my favorite type of imagery where everything looks good but at the same time you can tell it was completely done by people and not violated by computers to make it "shiny."
If you find "extreme hentai" humorous, you should really enhance the experience by getting drunk; you'll think "Seek 1 and 2" are the funniest things you've ever seen. Trust me, I got buzzed from a shot of vodka before watching this and nearly died of laughter. Better yet, if you have friends that think this stuff is unintentionally humorous as well, invite them over and pass around the hard liquor of your choice and laugh until the cows come home. If you feel like seeing such filthy animated acts for some cheap entertainment value, go download "Seek" 1 and 2 right now for some serious LOLs. As stated earlier, alcohol is an excellent companion with this.

I guess there is good reason that this dvd is a little less expensive than others in the same genre. Basically, it's a couple episodes of a couple different series, so don't even try this if you think to follow any kind of storyline. The first episode is pretty good, but the rest i found myself fast forwarding thru, waiting for a good scene to come along , but no luck. Alot more talking and useless scenery shots than is called for in this kind of anime. If you got the stomach for it, and are into the pretty extreme animes, i'd recommend the Bible Black series.DVD Review: Don't say I didn't warn you
