DVD Reviews of Code Lyoko - X.A.N.A. Unleashed v.1

DVD Review: fRANCE,WHODATHUNKIT!
Summary: 5 Stars

Code LYOJO is the most surprising anime series to hit the arwaves in a long time,The fact that it was made in France is equally surprising, imagine it the French have done something really cool rather than say ""I surrender!"(W.W.II)It looks japanese it's got a character who transferred fron Japan(Yumi)but it's from France!!! Whodathunkit!

Product as promised, super cool series both my children love.

DVD Review: Purposely repetitive!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Code:LYOKO is a great show,But where I live(UK) there is only Season 1,I think so because after the episode FALSE START(which is the last ep of Season 1),the next time its on,TEDDYGOZILLA which i heard is one of the first episodes.
After a few episodes you will think its repetitive,y`know "Oh no,XANA has awoken and is casing a problem" then at the end the character Aelita will walk into the "tower" drift to the top put her hand on this screen thingy and then the words "AELITA CODE:LYOKO" will appear then what ever XANA has done will suddenly stop, thus they go back into the past to the point before XANA had awoken.guys thats all part of the storyline,I`m sure the pattern will change as they get deeper into the series, afterall the series is all about computer stuff which is repetitive anyways.

Anyways on with the review:
Code:Lyoko is set on four teenagers:Ulrich,Odd,Jeramie and Yumi who befriend a virtual girl named Aelita who they wish(especially Jeramie) will be materielised and brought into the real world from LYOKO,a virtual world made up of about 3 regions,Ice,Desert and jungle all in which have a "tower" which can be activated by XANA,a computer virus in which the protagonists have never actually met.
The antagonists in the series are mainly XANA and its virtual monsters, but also a spoilt brat named Sissi who is the daughter of the priciple of Kadik high, the school they attend-who has a crush on Ulrich so she is always poking her nose into their buisness along with two of her friends(a geek, the other one a grunt).
I reccomend the series to anyone aged 10-15 as its full of dialogue, phrases such as "nuclear","biological" amongst other are at constant use.Infact in one episode,I was embarrased with one of Aelita`s sentances "...Maybe we could be in the same room, and be able to touch each other, maybe even kiss..".
Its not really a childrens series, but neitheir is it an adults so there is obviously no slang/swear words "Damn" or "Crap" are nonexitant in Code Lyoko.
anyways goodbye.

DVD Review: Highly Enjoyable!
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, let me start out by saying that I am 18 years old and yes, I absolutely LOVE this series. Now I must admit, when I first saw it I was too fond of it. However, I was attracted to the combination of animation styles that repressent the "real world" and Lyoko, and the theme song. (Probably the best theme song I have ever heard)

So, I continued to watch the series and began to fall in love with it. It's got lovable characters and interesting plot lines. People say that it's repetitive. I really don't agree. Yes, sometimes the same template is used (XANA attacks, one of the group members stay behind to occupy his attention, others to go Lyoko, Aelita deactivates the tower at the last possible second before the other team member is killed, launch a return to the past), but I never found it to get old.

And then in the Second Season, that "template" is hardly ever used seeing that a whole new plotline is introduced.

As far as the "horrible dubbing", it's not horrible. It's pretty good. I've watched the original French versions of the show and sometimes the voice overs were worse than the english ones. But lets face it...this is animation, not a real life drama. Of course the dubbing isn't going to always be exact!

And as far as "sterotypical characters" go, that's not prevelant in the show. Sure, you do have the snobby diva of the school ("Sissy") and the genuis (Jeremie), but what is so sterotypical about a virtual girl (Aelita)? Yumi is a Japanese girl who is just herself. I mean, sometimes characters like to "put on" a face which makes them seem different. Yumi doesn't. She seems quite comfortable with herself and really doesn't fit a sterotype . Ulrich is the same way. So is Odd (who yes, is kind of odd).

This show was aimed at pre-teens but there are many adults and teenages who love the show. This show has everything! From drama to comedy to action and adventure to romance. Top that off with enjoyable characters, awesome storylines, and a virtual world! Well it makes for such a great watch!

Description of Code Lyoko - X.A.N.A. Unleashed v.1

Earth and the parallel universe called Lyoko face the threat of annihilation. A super virus, X.A.N.A., has infected the central processing units of the Super Computer. Only four kids know of the existence of Lyoko and can foil the mad computers evil designs. Yumi, Ulrich, Odd and Jeremy lead double lives, ordnary boarding school students on earth and super heroes in the digital world of Lyoko. Their only guide in this mysterious world is Aelita, a virtual being that lives in Lyoko. With her help they fight X.A.N.A to save Lyoko and Earth.
Code Lyoko, which aired on Toonami in 2005, was made in France but tries to look Japanese. Ulrich, Odd, Yumi, and Jeremy attend a junior high that serves as headquarters in their battle against the super virus X.A.N.A. Using Jeremy's computer skills, the three friends travel to the cyber-world Lyoko, where they defend the sprite Aelita against X.A.N.A.'s monsters until she can disable the virus' attacks on the world. When they're in the human world, the characters are drawn; in Lyoko, they're rendered in 3-D CG. Code Lyoko has a valid premise, but it's poorly executed. The dubbing is bad, the characters lack originality, and the designs are unattractive: the kids have such high foreheads, their junior high should dispense Rogaine. Although "X.A.N.A. Unleashed" is the first disc, the story starts in the middle, leaving the viewer to piece together the set-up. The results play like a watered-down mixture of Reboot, Digimon, and the .Hack series. (Rated TV Y7: violence, minor toilet humor) --Charles Solomon
