DVD Reviews of Charade

DVD Review: Came quickly, Good condition.
Summary: 4 Stars

Came quickly, Good condition. The sound goes in and out a little bit at 2 spots in the movie. But it is still enjoyable!

DVD Review: OK film
Summary: 4 Stars

Got this one for my sister. I viewed it. I guess I'm not a Audrey Hepburn fanatic because I just don't groove on these flicks of hers. It's a classic and all, but I wouldn't recommend it, nor watch it ever again.

DVD Review: Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn are perfect together
Summary: 5 Stars

Cary Grant (Peter Joshua) and Audrey Hepburn (Regina 'Reggie' Lampert) are absolutely perfect for each other in this romantic comedy/drama about a women (Hepburn) married to a man who was not who she thought he was.

As a soldier in the OSS during WWII, Hepburn's husband was part of a team, parachuted behind enemy lines to deliver 250K in gold to the French Resistance. Instead, the group buries the money with plans to return and collect it. In true Hitchcock fashion, everything goes wacky and general pandemonium ensues.

Walter Matthau & James Coburn round out this star studded cast. Who will find the gold? Who is who? Who will Reggie trust? Can Reggie trust anyone? No spoilers here folks. Buy the movie and find out, it is well worth adding to your collection.

DVD Review: Grant + Hepburn = A Great Movie...
Summary: 4 Stars

...back in the '50s and '60s. Most thrillers today are terribly contrived and cover the same ground. It's refreshing to go back and review classics, and this is one of them.

Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant light up the screen as lovers caught in a web of murder and deceit when three dangerous criminals seek out a fortune stolen by Hepburn's late husband. To reveal any more would be cheating.

Plenty of twists, great one-liners, and sparkling performances make this a must-see. Fans of Hitchcock won't be disappointed with the story, as it shares similarities with some of his masterpieces.

A successfull blend of comedy, romance, and suspense. Highly recommended.

DVD Review: Who Dunit?
Summary: 5 Stars

There are few films I don't find fault with at all. This is one. It falls in a lot of genres: comedy, thriller, crime film, romance, and all of these genres are presented with a little bit of irony. It's a film for everybody. For example, this film offers many opportunities to guess who the bad guy is, if you like or watch out for all the blind motives. A very feminine Audrey Hepburn and her overtures to Cary Grant present intelligent but romantic humour. But also cineasts (like me) are able to enjoy this movie: The camera catches some beautiful pictures, and the sound supports them. Watch this movie. Even on television it's great fun.

Audrey Hepburn plays a Parisienne whose husband is murdered and who finds she is being followed by four men seeking the fortune her late spouse had hidden away. Cary Grant is the stranger who comes to her aid, but his real motives aren't entirely clear--could he even be the killer? The 1963 film is directed by Stanley Donen, but it has been called "Hitchcockian" for good reason: the possible duplicities between lovers, the unspoken agendas between a man and woman sharing secrets. Charade is nowhere as significant as a Hitchcock film, but suspense-wise it holds its own; and Donen's glossy production lends itself to the welcome experience of stargazing. One wants Cary Grant to be Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn to be no one but Audrey Hepburn in a Hollywood product such as this, and they certainly don't let us down. --Tom Keogh
