I was thrilled to receive this DVD in time for the holidays, but was sorely disappointed at the condition of the disk. There were small chip marks all around the edge of the disk. He has such an original spin on comedy that I felt priveldged to wittness his entire career unfold. This dvd is what his name says he is "The Entertainer" with all of the dancing and some singing and of course straight to the gut jokes!

Red-hot actor/comedian Cedric the Entertainer stars in his first solo HBO special, a no-holds-barred 60-minute routine performed in front of a live audience at The Wiltern, the venerable Los Angeles theater. Spiced by several song-and-dance numbers featuring a smokin? band and sexy group of dancers he calls the ?Cedibles,? the special highlights Cedric?s hilarious takes on fame, TV, rap music, sports, diets, plastic surgery, gay marriage, church socials, meeting the President (?not the new one, but the one we like?), $5,000-a-plate dinners, Afghanistan, Osama Bin Laden, suicide bombers, gas prices, Halloween, Latin music and more.Directed by TV vet Stan Lathan (Dave Chappelle: For What It's Worth), Taking You Higher represents the sharp-dressed comedian's first HBO special. Unlike the other Original Kings of Comedy, Cedric Kyles, AKA Cedric the Entertainer (The Steve Harvey Show, Barbershop), puts on an old school Vegas-style show in which stand-up rubs shoulders with singing and dancing. Filmed at LA's Wiltern LG Theater, Cedric is joined by a full band, including brass section, and the Cedibles, a Solid Gold Dancers-meet-Fly Girls ensemble. On stage, he takes on all manner of topics, like television, hip-hop, diets, and plastic surgery. On the subject of TV, Cedric posits a world in which Desperate Housewives becomes Desperate Sisters and the CSI franchise spawns a show set in Detroit (the point being that all-black shows rarely hit the same heights). Songs include Sinatra staple "Summer Wind" and "Where's the Remote," a stab at James Brown funk. There's some good stuff here. Nothing earthshaking, but Cedric has choice words about pretty much everything. And he may not be the best singer, but the dapper dude keeps the musical numbers short and the long-limbed lovelies help to distract from any vocal liabilities. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
