DVD Reviews of Cat O' Nine Tails

DVD Review: Platinum Disc Corporation
Summary: 1 Stars

One of the absolute worst DVD productions I have ever seen. The company that produced this version is Platinum Disc Corporation of La Crosse, WI. The image is presented full-frame (4:3), and the video and audio quality are both very poor. No subtitles and no special features to speak of either. However, the thing that really amazed me in terms of sheer bold idiocy was this company thinking it would be clever to superimpose their logo on the screen during the actual film! At least now I will remember to NEVER buy anything with the Platinum Disc Corporation logo on it again. (Note that my one-star rating only applies to this DVD edition, not to Dario Argento's film.)

DVD Review: Movie Mediocracy - Morricone Musical Masterpiece
Summary: 3 Stars

This is not as great a film as you would expect
from Dario Argento, but it is good.
I purchased this film because Dario Argento
is one of the great film artists and I figured
that I could not go wrong (not necessarily a good assumption,
having already seen the awful "Phantom of the Opera").

In a nutshell, it is a crime drama on a par with a
superior television show.
But, and this a big but, the musical score
by the great Ennio Morricone is a masterpiece.

Add the score for this film to your collection.

DVD Review: This Cat is Missing Some Tails
Summary: 2 Stars

This DVD version of Dario Argento's masterpiece was in full screen and the video and audio were of poor quality. Most importantly, it had been editted. Either it was a copy of the American release or a television version. Several important scenes had been entirely removed, namely the visit to the cemetery and the discovery of a dead scientist. The death of the villian had also been editted. It wasn't until I had seen the superb DVD that Blue Underground recently released that I realized what I had been missing. Do not buy the Miracle Productions DVD. Save your money and buy the one from Blue Underground.

DVD Review: Flawless and Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is a true classic, and for the price...it can't be beat. If you have ever liked a Dario Argento film, then get this immediately. If you're wanting to enter the world of Argento's films, this along with Suspiria is a great way to start. Don't pass this film up, it will surprise you for sure. And I challenge you to find a movie similar to this...it's a unique and memorable film from a mastermind of cinema.

DVD Review: GOT MILK....??
Summary: 5 Stars

Dario Argento fans have nothing to fear, Anchor Bay has done justice to this film. The video transfer from Anchor Bay is simply amazing and the digital 2.0 sound is great. Anchor Bay has given Dario Argento fans "The Cat O' Nine Tails" in it's 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The pristine video transfer is presented in all it's remastered, uncut and unedited glory. In my opinion the acting in this movie is outstanding for a rather obscure film from the 1970's. I think all the actors gave a solid performance in their roles and this film kept me guessing until the very end. Karl Malden portrays a blind man who teams up with a reporter (James Franciscus) to catch a brutal killer on a rampage. Most of the story and action takes place at a research hospital, where the killer tries to conceal the original crime with even more violent murders. I knew nothing about this movie until I picked it up at used dvd store, but it has quickly become one of my favorite movies. Whether you're a hardcore or casual Argento fan, this movie is definitely worth seeing. As a bonus some nice extra's have been included in this version.

DVD Features Include:
*Tales of the Cat - interviews with writer/director Dario Argento, co-writer Dardano Sacchetti, and composer Ennio Morricone
* Theatrical trailers
* TV spots
* Radio spots
* Radio interviews with stars James Franciscus and Karl Malden
* Poster & still gallery
* Talent bios

P.S. This movie will make you think twice the next time someone offers you something to drink.
