DVD Reviews of Bustin' LooseDVD Review: Keep your Goodtimes version (the first release of this DVD) Summary: 4 StarsThe Goodtimes version is released in the "full screen" version. This newer re-issue is said to be the "widescreen" version (1.85). But, here's what you really get:
I've watched them both, side by side. You don't get the original theatrical widescreen version. This newer release is the "fullscreen" version (where the sides are already cut off) and now with the top and bottom cut off to create a "simulated" widescreen version. So, this film has never yet been released on DVD in the true original theatrical widescreen version. Now, what this version gives you is like a small box view from the middle of the whole intended frame. The sides and the top and bottom cut off.
DVD Review: "Bustin Loose" with Richard Pryor Summary: 5 StarsThis movie is hilarious & entertaining. Its fun & was an enjoyment to watch. I bought this movie for a friend after he asked for it as a birthday present. I saw it first on television. I loved it so much that I had to go out & buy it. The ending of the movie was perfect & was similar to what I would call a fairy tale ending.
DVD Review: wonderful Summary: 5 StarsThis old time classic bring back smile and memories of old time. many laughs
DVD Review: Review of DVD Purchase Summary: 5 StarsI am very satisfied with the product. It arrived in a timely manner and did not have any defects. Excellent job. Thank you.
DVD Review: I was in this movie Summary: 5 StarsI hadn't thought about this movie for some time. I was in this movie. I was a King County deputy (outside Seattle) at the time working off duty for set security on this movie and was invited to be in it. I am one of the two cops (the one with all the hair) at the end of the movie confronting Richard Pryor. It was very interesting being involved in this movie. I got to meet Cycely and Richard Pryor and actually small talk for a bit with them between scenes. As far as the movie itself - I enjoyed it. It is funny and actually touching in parts. There were parts of this movie that were redone at a later date to "soften" it up some for the new improved Pryor (after his accident). The kids in this movie were great and some of them were actually disabled to some degree. Yes, I agree it would be interesting to see how some of the kids are doing now..24 yrs later. By the way, I don't have all the hair anymore. It is interesting to watch a movie filmed in your home area. Watch this movie...it is worth it. Sherlock
Description of Bustin' LooseJoe braxton is an ex-con who has been given a second chance to freedom after violating his probation. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 12/26/2006 Starring: Richard Pryor Peggy Mccay Run time: 94 minutes Rating: R Director: Oz Scott Of all the films in which Richard Pryor was the main star in the 1970s and 1980s, this was one of the only ones to come close to capturing his impishly mercurial stage presence as a standup comedian--and also to aspire to coherency, perhaps because it was cowritten by Pryor and award-winning playwright Lonne Elder III. Pryor plays an ex-convict who gets strong-armed into helping a schoolteacher (Cicely Tyson) drive a busload of physically and emotionally handicapped children across the country. Though there is the kind of irascible adult-cute kid interplay you would expect, Pryor makes it work, even as he finds the heart in a ne'er-do-well who discovers a talent for caring for others. Watch for the scene in which Pryor finds himself face to face with a hooded group of Klansmen and comically finesses the situation. --Marshall Fine
