DVD Review: A wonderful last album by one of the masters of country

The shelf live on most popular music is not very long. Who still listens to Linda Rondstadt? But some of the popular musicians cut through the clutter and re-define the genre in a new and lasting way. Buck Owens was one of them. A huge star in the early 1960s -- did you know that the Beatles did a version of one of his songs on their album Help! -- he has kind of faded from view of late. But Dwight Yoakum has been plugging his music, and he did this last live album.
This does not sound like the last live album of a an old man playing songs all written almost forty years ago-- which is what it actually is. Instead, it sounds like a very lively fresh musician playing up to the minute music. The greats sounds do not die.
