DVD Review: Great show

I just watched this season on DVD, having never seen it on TV. It's a great show with an allstar cast: Rob Lowe, Calista Flockhart, Ron Rifkin and Patricia Wettig.
The discs are set up nicely, including the "previously on" reminder at the beginning of the episodes, which I like, but some dramas leave off.
One problem -- and I think that this only happened on the final disc in the series -- there are a bunch of previews that cannot be skipped over by going straight to the disc menu.

Started watching the show mid-season, didn't know what I was missing in the various story lines. Great way to get caught up... I have turned on many friends to this show because of the first seasons DVD. Love the interaction between all the family members. The first few episodes, i was hooked, and still am. A great show for me has a realistic storyline I can relate to and at the same time is enticing to watch. This show initially reminded me of the Cosbys, don't think there's been one to match it since then. Who doesn't love and hate their family at the same time. I figured this was a show about an average family, with everyday issues and they got through it together. Wrong. Overrated things happened one after the other...father dies, mistress appears, with daughter in tow, company is bankrupt, then finds 30 million dollar property, divorce, and so on... not a regular family, individual issues yes, but collectively one family, all these issues - no wonder tears were overdone. The touch of great drama is knowing characters love each other without having to say it. I think it is said in every episode... good try though, especially with all the reality junk on TV these days. Brilliant actors, just wish the storylines did not try so hard, they just missed the mark and made it too mushy...will keep watching, here's hoping....DVD Review: Fall in love again

Awesome series. Started watching but due to family missed alot so I had to get the whole season to catch up and it was awesome. The drama the family goes through is so amazing. I feel like a part of the family after watching every episode. The special features are pretty good too gives you more to see of the family.

Just because you're all grown up doesn't mean your family dynamics get any easier. Luckily for TV fans, the first season of Brothers and Sisters makes for addictive watching while exploring the intricacies of a family, in crisis and in repose. First, let us give thanks for the amazing Sally Field, who has literally grown up on the small screen, and who now plays the matriarch of the Walker family, though not as a power-mad dowager, but as a well-meaning, slightly naive but fiercely loyal California girl gone ever-so-slightly gray. In fact, when this show debuted in the fall of 2006, it was known as the "new Calista Flockhart show," but Field quickly became the standout in a stellar ensemble cast.
While the Walkers' problems of money and business deals may seem rarefied to some, the family pecking orders and feuds are universal and handled deftly by the writers and the actors, including Patricia Wettig, the icy former mistress of the dearly departed Walker pere (Tom Skerritt), and brothers Dave Annable and Balthazar Getty. Rachel Griffiths is a tart sisterly counterpoint to Flockhart's flighty Ann Coulter wannabe. In short, anyone with a family should be able to relate. And, perhaps, cringe a bit. --A.T. Hurley
