DVD Reviews of Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical MovieDVD Review: Half an hour to... HOUR AND A HALF????? Summary: 3 Stars
Yep, that's right. Blue, Steve, and their house appliance friends have their own movie. For those of you who don't know, Blue's Clues is a "play-along" show that involves a dog named Blue, and her half-witted owner, Steve. Today, they are planning a musical show in their backyard. Only problem is, Blue finds that the clock, named Tickety has laryngitis and can't sing. Considering Blue only communicates through barks, she can't sing in the big show... WHICH IS THIS AFTERNOON!!! Big problem. Well, Blue has a solution to every problem like this. It's time for her to leave clues. No, not those special surprises your family dog leaves. I mean she puts pawprints on objects so Steve can find the clues which are marked on everything. From his furniture to his paintings which he can jump into by singing a "magical" rhyme and "skidoo" into the picture. But that's not the point of this show. The point is that he realizes that for the past couple of years, he can't find the clues for himself. He has to let his human pre-school friends shout out where it is. Example: Pre-schooler: A CLUE! A CLUE! Steve: What?! I need to tie my shoe? Oh, thank you. See how helpless this guy is. But, the household appliances which are alive have problems too. So Steve and his friends go find them and make a game out of it so they help their friends in a fun way. So, the question of the day is: Who should be the singer for our big show. So, everyone has problems, such as their mailbox is stuck. Remember when I told you about skidoos? Well, they skidoo into a music page to make a song. The funny part is... Ray Charles is the Key Signature! The main thing is, let your young kids adventure through this movie with Steve and friends and see if Steve actually can find a clue by himself. Your kids will enjoy this if they're young enough to not care about the cheesiness of this movie.

Description of Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical MovieJoin Steve, Blue and all their friends as they plan a backyard musical show! Preschoolers will help Steve and Blue get the show underway, write an all new song with G-Clef --the voice of Ray Charles, and of course, play Blue's Clues. In Blue's Big Musical Movie, preschoolers will sing, dance, play, and learn that they can be anything they want to be! Includes 6 Brand-New Songs! Promotes Critical Thinking, Music (Curriculum including Notes, Rhythm & Tempo), Problem Solving, Confidence, and Self-Esteem Blue bounds into her first feature-length film ready to sing. She gets sidetracked along the way, of course, but that's part of the brilliant Blue's Clues formula. Each half-hour TV show presents engaging, easy-to-grasp mini-mysteries that are within toddlers' reach. This time Blue; her huge-eyed, slightly loopy human companion, Steve; and their cadre of talking-object friends are scurrying around, preparing for a backyard music show that day. Everybody picks a number to perform; Blue's is a duet with Tickety Tock, but the clock contracts laryngitis. Who will be Blue's new partner? A game of Blue's Clues reveals the hardly reluctant replacement. The standard discovery of three clues followed by the usual wind-down song would add up to a colossal disappointment in a feature film, so substantial rounding-out is provided. Steve stumbles onto a keyboard inhabited by a note called G-Clef (the unmistakable voice of Ray Charles), who gives a tour of how to make a song. First you pick the notes, then you work on rhythm, then comes tempo, and, last but not least, "you've got to give it soul." This movie's themes include perseverance (Tickety Tock can't sing but finds a way to contribute anyway) and self-empowerment. Blue's Big Musical Movie is a feast for little eyes and ears; the sets are so colorful they hurt grown-up eyes, and the songs--especially the one that gets the Charles treatment--are all sing-along-with-me winners. --Tammy La Gorce
