DVD Review: A Spiritual Wonder

This movie is a spiritual wonder. The movie is wonderfully done. It is very moving and emotional. I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone and/or church class. It really shows the love of God working.

DVD Review: Very Inspirational
Summary: 5 Stars

I have not read the book of the same title by Corrie ten Boom. This is my first experience with understanding her family's place in history. I do know that there is much more to her life and accomplishments, but this is a good look into one portion of their story. I appreciated that it was filmed on location in many of the areas where the events took place. Set in the backdrop of the Nazi occupation of Holland and this Christian family involved themselves in the protection of Jews. Ultimately, they are arrested for their support, and many pay with their lives. A love and deep abiding faith in Christ are present throughout this entire film and are an inspiration to the viewer. As a special treat, Corrie ten Boom speaks at the end of the film.

*A note to parents: While this film does give a glimpse into the horror of the action of the Nazi's as well as an internment camp, this might prove to be a good "introductory" film for your children. It is not the point of this film to show all the horrors of social cleansing and the viewer is spared many gory details without loosing sight of just what the ten Boom family was committed to.

DVD Review: The Hiding Place, my favorite movie
Summary: 3 Stars

The Hiding Place is a touching story depicting the love and protection of God's people the Jews during Hitler's Holocaust. The sufferings of Christ on behalf of His people were replayed in the Ten Boom family. I treasure this film and the book as well. My only disappointment in the videotape I received was the aged quality of the music. When the updated video version of this film was being sold a few years ago, I gave away my last copy. This older version of the film is a blessing but just requires a bit of imagination to remember the music the way it was.

DVD Review: Do not be fooled

Don't be fooled...this is a mediocre movie. The enthusiasm for it is not about film or drama or history; it is about Christian zeal and otherworldly piety.

Of course, there is no denying the courage of these people in putting themselves in great peril to aid Jews in the Holocaust. But, personally, I found the repetition of Christian clich?s and hysterical belief to be insufferable. We hear incessantly that "the Lord will not put on us something that we can not bear" yada yada yada yada. And, the folks seemed to operate their lives based on direct instructions from Above. It is the silliest poppycock imaginable, although I recognize that hundreds of millions of intellectual children believe this rubbish.

Perhaps more annoying than the mystical belief was the childlike carelessness with which these folks went about their mission. I suppose they felt that since they had divine protection, they did not need to be cautious. Let it be a lesson to all: There are dangerous realities out there in the world -- Nazis, for example -- and if you believe, as they did, that you have magical protection, you, also, are apt to suffer devastating consequences.

DVD Review: A story about a family during WWII.

This movie was shown in my church years ago. It has always stayed with me. It is taken from the book "The Hiding Place" about the life of a Dutch citizen Corrie Tin Boom and how her family strived to save the Jews from certain destruction. If you have read the book just like many movies it leaves out some of the more interesting factors, but none the less it is an inspiring movie.
