Disappointing DVD in 4 episodes. #1. Fortress of the Sea: decent rerun of Corregidor. #2. Battle of Manila: too much redundant rerun clips from the first episode. How many times need we watch MacArthur wade in to the beach? #3. Westward is Bataan: disappointing. Has nothing to do at all with Bataan. The film clip is all about New Guinea. #4. Minidoc - two years at war: OK, nothing special.
Expected much more about the Philippines.
Description of Battle Of The Philippines
Over 90 min of rarely before seen interviews documentaries war footage and more from private libraries of veterans from WWII. This action packed and stunning DVD contains the following programs: Fortress in the Sea - This chronicle follows General Mac Arthur's triumphant "return" to Corregidor as his forces defeat the Japanese defenders. This production also details the experiences of an army nurse and sergeant as the liberation is seen though their eyes. Battle for Manila - In fulfilling his promise to return General MacArthur brought a massive American force to the Philippines to liberate the people from over three years of Japanese occupation. The Japanese were dug in and waiting and before it was over the month-long battle for Manila would see the most bloody urban fighting of the Pacific War. Westward is Bataan - As General MacArthur and the US Army in the Pacific closed in on the prize of liberating the Philippines he had the Army pictorial service produce a series of films to get the troops ready for the battle to come. This is one such production and gives the viewer a rare glimpse into how the combat troops in the Pacific were prepared to an upcoming campaign.
