hard to find anything comparable - nice (albeit idealized) snapshot of Buenos Aires
able to watch this many times (one of my criteria for a great work of art)
a bit of a challenge to reconcile to Duvall's somewhat antagonistic (perhaps viewer uncomfortably gauche) character - a character licensed via an older American gangster
lots of great commentary by duvall and pedraza (with some deleted scenes) helps to make you feel like you are with them on location (99% shot in Argentina)
I keep hoping this was a 6 hr mini series (they had to cut stuff) Duvall has excellent intuition of what is cultural with a balance of history and now (Duvall wrote and directed this - perhaps we will be treated to another since his passion is obvious here)
hard to believe that Luciana isn't a professional tango dancer

Loved this film, which was done on location in Argentina, and partyly NYC. Fantastic cast, including Ruben Blades playing a small cameo. Duvall was at his best and was interesting to watch interact with the locals. He's a fascinating man and astounding actor who even did a good job of pulling off the tango scenes. The film gave you the impression that a great deal of it was improvised. Watching the tango was totally mesmermizing. What a sensous dance.
Vendor did a great job in getting the product to me on time and in great condition. Would highly recommend both film and vendor.

Veteran hit man John J. (Duvall) has just received the toughest assignment of his career: Travel to Buenos Aires, take down a corrupt general and be back in America in less than three days. But when the hit is unexpectedly delayed, John finds himself prowling the city's intoxicating tango clubs only to be seduced by a sultry dancer (Pedraza), tempted by the tango and betrayed by a lethal conspiracy. *1983: Actor, Tender MerciesRobert Duvall's fascination with tango finds its expression in this labor of love, a film he wrote, directed, and stars in.
