DVD Reviews of Another Cinderella StoryDVD Review: do you believe she danced that much better? Summary: 3 StarsSelena Gomez dances pretty well, but not a lot better
than the others here. The story in which her aunt uses
her niece as a live in maid while she is going to high school
has "ethnic" content in that Mary is half "Latino"
and her aunt and her cousins are "white bread".
This movie has that made for dizzy feel about it
with some pop culture thrown ( break dancing, rap, hip-hop) in for appearances.
Her aunt thew popular singer / dancer calls Mary "chicken legs"
because she admittedly has very thin legs for a dancer.
The teen heart throb is taken as "prince charming"
and her Microsoft iPod ( a zune) is her glass slipper,
so why didn't they use an iPod which is more popular and recognizable?
I just wasn't convinced that she was that good a dancer
to win this end competition, but she had to have
an happy ending.
DVD Review: Cute film, but very much "been there, done that" Summary: 4 StarsThis is a cute movie, but it has the feeling of "been there, done that." Like a lot of Cinderella remakes, it follows the same general storyline of the original. This version is a good remake of those remakes, but doesn't really add anything original or exciting. If you want a movie to watch with your kids, this is a decent bet. But it loses a star for lack of originality.
DVD Review: Disney Crap for the already brainwashed Hanna-Montanna clone Summary: 1 StarsThe worst teen movie I have ever watched. Badly written, horrendous acting and typical plot. Is this all that kids wanna be? Famous, sining and dancing? Watch something better unless you are into the fake world of make-believe cinderella stories.
DVD Review: Another Cinderella Story Summary: 5 Starswell, i'm not sure where to start with this review but i have to start some where. I bought this movie not knowing what to expect and i loved it. this movie is a cute movie for both boys and girls of all ages. the movie centers around mary, who lives with like an evil gardian and her daughters. mary meets the ''micheal landon'' of her time and dances with him; but she thinks shes not good enough for him. she loses her music player he tries to find her when she tries to tell him it was hers he blows her off. then at a party he finds out its hers and he falls in love with her then in the end sge goes to dancing school and leaves her miserable life behind. this movie was excellent; i recoomend it; it was filled with romance, frienship, comedy.
DVD Review: Here's "Something You Don't Know"...This Is A Charming Film Summary: 4 StarsFor the most part, I consider the Disney Channel (and all its programming and outlets) to be a bit too "in your face" and loud in terms of shows, acting, promotions, and pretty much everything else. When one of "their own" become stars, they are (at least for a short time) what the world is talking about. Yet, every once in awhile, there are shows (e.g. Drake and Josh, Wizards of Waverly Place) and actors (e.g. Josh Peck, Selena Gomez) that I can legitimately enjoy with my younger siblings. "Another Cinderella Story" is one of those shows.
Starring Gomez, at what probably will amount to the height of her "Wizards" fame, this film channels the classic children's story "Cinderella" and gives it a culturally relevant twist. When a young girl (Gomez) lucks into an exclusive dance with the school's most handsome boy (Andrew Seeley) but then must rush home to please her overbearing stepmother (anything sound familiar yet?!), an I-Pod (ala slipper) is the only link between their special moment. Thus, the remainder of the film centers on both boy and girl finding each other and building a relationship.
This movie is clearly superior to its Hilary Duff-starring predecessor in the areas of acting, energy, and excitement:
Acting-wise, Gomez can hold her own with anyone, while Seeley, rather surprisingly, almost steals the show with his screen time. Obviously hired to be the "leading hunk", Seeley turns in a genuine performance. The supporting cast is also just stereotypically goofy enough to be considered "true Disney", but also too stereotypical to really offend anyone (in the High School Musical mold).
In terms of energy and excitement, the fact that the film is set to a back-drop of hip-hop dancing automatically gives it a bit of spunk and flash. Both Gomez and Seeley (or their stunt doubles...whatever the case may be) can really rip it up on the dance floor, only adding to the chemistry between them.
Thus, if you have children (or younger siblings) that adore pretty much all Disney fare, fear not...for this is a film that can be enjoyed by you as well! Though not an instant classic by any means, it is a solid little fun film that will have you singing its tunes and dancing to its catchy beats long after you push the "STOP" button.
Description of Another Cinderella StoryIt's musical. It's magical. It's Another Cinderella Story, the dancing ever-after fairy tale. In this joyous update, Selena Gomez(The Wizards of Waverly Place) is Mary, a modern Cinderella complete with dancing shoes instead of a glass slipper. Drew Seeley (High School Musical) is Joey, a Prince Charming and dreamy new-guy-in-school looking for a girl to love. Could Mary be that girl? With your kind of music and dance, your kind of romance and all kinds of surprises, you'll find that Another Cinderella Story is a perfect fit. Another Cinderella Story adds a few modern day twists to the classic fairy tale on which it is based, and it aims straight for the hearts of 21st century tweens. Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) plays Mary, a shy high-school student saddled with a wicked guardian and a pair of mean girls stepsisters. Her life changes dramatically when a famous pop star enrolls at her school. Joey (Andrew Seeley) is everything the rest of boys in her class aren't-handsome, kind, and desirable. At a masked dance, Mary and Joey meet and fall in like with each other. But when she has to rush back home, she leaves behind her MP3 player, which becomes the only clue Joey has to find the girl of his dreams. Gomez, who shows nice range, is well-cast in the ing?nue role. While indeed very dreamy, Seeley is a tad too old to play Gomez's boyfriend. Another Cinderella Story isn't the best-made Cinderella story. Drew Barrymore's Ever After was more clever. And the 1965 adaptation of Cinderella starring Lesley Ann Warren still stands up to time. But with its young cast and energetic choreography, Another Cinderella Story is a perfect fairytale for the tween and young teen set. --Jae-Ha Kim
