DVD Review: A Delightful Tale, and Great Music Too!

"Alvin and the Chipmunks" is a delightful tale of three singing kids who happen to be chipmunks. Its entertaining story is woven into a commentary about the exploitation of child stars. Whether you are an original Chipmunks fan, like me, or a new one, like my daughter, the Chipmunks' music and a delightful story will be a treat for anyone.

DVD Review: probably one of the worst movies since Garfield

Wow I must have missed something! I don't normally review movies but this was just a completely hoeky movie. When I think Alvin and the Chipmunks I try to remember the cartoon version back in the day and to put it in this wannabe "cute" version.... it bombed in my opinion. Nice try but the movie is two thumbs.......way down. I can see kids liking it. So if you got them....go for it. If you're old enough to remember the cartoon like I am....this movie is a disappointment.

DVD Review: Predictable and yet well done.

The movie's plot is entirely predictable. The acting is ok. The most memorable acting moments is done by the CGI chipmunks, which is a little weird. Seville is ok but he has nothing to work with. Nothing is really done with the love interest. She is there to smooth over some plot points. There are some funny gags and some witty lines. The music is ok. My wife was looking for the subtitles about two minutes into the film. At the start of the movie the chipmunks are really hard to understand, but it gets better.

In summary, I recommend this as a good family film, but nothing extraodinary. I would give this movie another 1/2 star for the humor and the music is memorable.

Families come in many different shapes and sizes, but few humans consider rodents members of the family. Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is no exception, so when this flailing musician finds three young talking chipmunks gorging themselves in his kitchen cupboards, Dave is quick to question his sanity and then toss the offending chipmunks outside into the rain and restore order. When Dave hears the chipmunks singing outside his window, he realizes that that unusual trio might just be the world's next vocal sensation and he strikes a bargain with them--the chipmunks can stay with him if they sing his songs. While chipmunks Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Jesse McCartney), and Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) quickly begin to see Dave as a father figure, it's strictly a business arrangement for Dave and he maintains an appropriate emotional distance.
