DVD Review: Series Ages As Well As Laphroaig
Summary: 5 Stars

Be sure to watch these specials, as they precede Season Four; taking place in the long hiatus between Seasons Three & Four. Wonderful series, of course. Robert Hardy is always marvelous, whether here, or stealing scenes in "Harry Potter." As other viewers have noted, the changing of the Helens is odd at first, but you get used to it, as Lynda Bellingham does a great job. Only wish these transition-specials, which were made for Christmas in the UK, had a whiff of the holidays about them.

I've worked in the Dales, raised various creatures, and been knocked off a milking stool several times. These books and DVD portrayals are timeless. For your complete viewing pleasure: don't plan on going anywhere, just sit back and enjoy with a shot of aged single malt, peat-scented Islay Scotch Whisky, like "Laphroaig." The discerning Siegfried Farnon would appreciate it too. Sip along with the vets, who have a supernatural capacity to work and imbibe. Must be the fresh Yorkshire air.

Warning: For Season Four ordered new DVDs, but received an opened, used, banged-up box instead. More quality control in Amazon's inventory & shipping needed. These guys usually do a wonderful job, and the other DVDs arrived ok.

These are specials from a top quality series from BBC. It is the story of three veterinarians in Scotland, showing their interactions with each other and with the townspeople as they handle their vet practice. The episodes are heartwarming and humorous. Written by James Herriot, a practicing veterinarian, it stars Christopher Timothy as James and Robert Hardy as the vet whose practice James joins. The episodes are based on real life experiences of the vets.

We are dedicated Herriot fans. These two episodes, Christmas Specials, were the best we've seen so far. Highly recommended for family viewing.

The specials complete the whole sequense of the 7 series.
It smoothen the transition between the series.
Specially the one where James is returning from the army after
WW2 is a must see. Another pleasure is that the specials where
filmed with Carol Drinkwater as Helen.
