DVD Reviews of All About Garbage & RecyclingDVD Review: I once lived next door to a garbage man. Summary: 3 StarsI have purchased many of the 'All About' series for our 45 children who are all teddy bears. They love watching DVD's. It really is a treat for them to watch the color, and visualise an adult world gone wrong.
Most might agree that a DVD 1 hour long for $5.98, is a good deal. Well, if you buy 20 of them, [aeroplanes, ships, cars, fire trucks police cars...and so on] it may not be a wise investment, but imagine the hours of entertainment?
Many years ago when "Teletubbies" was popular,[PBS Kids] you could buy their DVD's for about the same price. Now most are collectors items, that command hideous price tags. Somehow I doubt if 'Hard Hat Harry' and 'Backpack Jack' from this DVD, would make the grade of 'collectible.'
In my second year at university, I rented a room in a terraced house. Next door lived a garbage man, and his name was Dave. We invited him to all 2 parties, held at the house back in the day. Cassette players and low lights... He loved every moment. To our amazement he was campaigning for the upcoming general election. We joined the cause ; because he was a most unusual [garbage] man. If only we had the resources to purchase video equipment during our baked beans and toast student days : we could now sell it on Amazon for $6.98, or $7.99? Our only prize for socializing with Dave was a bottle of vintage champagne, because his candidate's party won the election.
All in all, enough said. Keep your teddy bears happy...save a teddy today! Purchase the whole 'All About' series, it is wonderful fun for the whole universe.
DVD Review: Perfect for a little girl wondering about recycling Summary: 5 StarsKiddo has been asking about what happens to trash, and she was appalled to learn about landfills. So you can imagine her excitement when we rented Backpack Jack's "All About Garbage and Recycling."
I'd never watched anything with Backpack Jack in it before. He reminded me of Steve Burns, the original host of Blue's Clues -- young, friendly, and upbeat. Kids will love all the car- and can-crushing machines, but some might not get Backpack Jack's sense of humor. Kiddo, for example, thought he was serious when he said a machine was crushing his car!
This movie has a definite pro-recycling perspective, so it made kiddo very happy. Still, I wish it talked a little bit about reducing and reusing old materials.
DVD Review: My two kids LOVE it! Summary: 4 StarsI bought this for my four year old son who is infatuated with trucks, and especially garbage trucks. This DVD has two sections. One is for Garbage trucks and one is for Trucks. The garbage trucks section did not catch my son's attention and he was bored quickly. He never asked to watch it and he simply says no when i offer to play it for him. I have to admit that i was disappointed myself because it focused so much on recycling, which is a good thing to teach for kids, but I was hoping that it would have more scenes that catches my son's attention, such as garbage trucks picking up garbage from the street and the whole action of it emptying the garbage so it would catches my son's attention.
The second section, however, is a different story! My son AND my three year old daughter LOVE to watch and ask to watch it at least three times a day! My son ALWAYS asks me to skip the garbage truck section and just play the trucks section. My kids are VERY picky when it comes to watching a show and they tend to get bored easily with almost all the DVDs i get for them, including Barney, Elmo, brainy baby...etc, they stay GLUED to this one. Hart Hat Harry talks about verities of different kinds of trucks, including garbage trucks, 18 wheelers, and odd shaped trucks; such as the Oscar Mayer and army trucks which turn into bridge; he talks about snow plow, bucket trucks, street sweepers, tow trucks...etc. It focuses more on the 18 wheelers trucks, which my kids did not mind at all. He dedicated a small section for garbage trucks and how they pick up trash cans, which was much better than the garbage truck section, believe it or not. My kid's favorite is when the Oscar Mayer car passes by. They laugh so hard when they see it..lol
This DVD has become my kid's favorite, I just ordered Hard Hat Harry trains and helicopters and Hard Hat Harry trucks and fire trucks from eBay and I'm just hoping that they would like it as much!
DVD Review: My 4 year old loves it!!!! Summary: 5 StarsThis dvd is one of my son's absolute favorites!!! He is obsessed with garbage trucks and watches this at least once a week. It is also educational! I am a public school pre-k teacher and show this dvd when we talk about recycling. The process of recycling is explained so that even small children can understand it and it shows enough big garbage trucks and stinky landfills to keep your little trash truck lover engaged!!! Definitely worth the money!!!!!
DVD Review: Yep, NO Trash Trucks Summary: 2 StarsSo, I read the reviews. My boy is 4.5 so he's able to listen to the wealth of information it tells you about Garbage and Recycling, but he was sooooo disappointed that there were no trash trucks in action.
If you kid likes to learn and likes hearing about the "how" then this will be great for them. If you he/she just wants to see some garbage trucks in action, forget it.
