DVD Reviews of Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (Extreme Unrated Set + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]DVD Review: Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (DVD) ~ Steven Pasquale Summary: 5 StarsI thought the last Alien vs predator was excellent . Very disapointed in this movie . I came in perfect condition and very fast excellent vendor
DVD Review: Horrible Sci-Fi Summary: 1 StarsSo this is a pretty bad movie. Long time fan of the Aliens movies. Even liked the first AVP. However, this Requiem movie was not even worth seeing. I would steer clear of this. Hopefully they will make another AVP worth watching.
DVD Review: 2 stars out of 4 Summary: 2 StarsThe Bottom Line:
The good news is that AVPR is mildly less ridiculous and annoying than the original (which seemed to think people in Antartica run around in t-shirts) but the bad news is that this is still a pointless and senseless exercise in gross violence that will make fans of the original franchises want to cry--if you fancy yourself a fan of Alien or Predator (or good movies) do not see this one.
DVD Review: Exciting! Summary: 4 StarsPredator has always been one of my favorite characters. He's such a bass a** alien. I liked Predator 1 and 2 more than the AVP sequel, however the AVPs were still great to watch.
AVPR is different from AVP because this time Predator is fighting against an Alien that mutated into something between the Alien type and the Predator one. He's something in between! He's also stronger than the regular Aliens Predator used to fight against in AVP.
The movie stayed exciting tll the end. I didn't appreciate the ending that much because the Aliens and Predator got killed very easily by humans via a nuclear bomb. But I guess that was the only way to get rid of them since Aliens were spreading all over the place.
Anyway, I really don't wana see a new AVP movie anymore. We are tired of seeing Predator fighting against Aliens and humans getting stuck in between.
I'd love to see a Predator Vs. Batman movie. That would be awsome!
DVD Review: Abysmal Summary: 1 StarsInsipid. Abysmal. Wretched. Horrible. Abhorrent....when something is this bad, how can words describe it?
The direction was absolutely terrible - constantly dark, murky, and muted lighting makes it difficult to see anything. These directors clearly do not know what they are doing. There is the total absence of a narrative or conflict that drives movies and make the original two Aliens movies great and first Predator decent. The story can't decide if it is a teenage horror movie, science fiction, or action thriller. Of course, with directors as incompetent as these, it fails miserably on all counts. They can't even get one out of three right. It is pointlessly cruel - one could tolerate an exploding pregnant woman's abdomen or the implied death of 20 or so infants in a hospital if there was a point or even in a teenage boy kind of attempt-to-be-edgy-and-artsy way, but in this context there was no point. While Battlefield Earth was a good bad movie, thus making it a mildly pleasant, albeit absurd, diversion, this film is the worst kind: a bad bad movie.
If you go to the directors' website, you can see their other "work" - commercials, music videos, etc. There may be a few who like these talentless, poor excuses for film makers and use the fact that this film did well financially worldwide as a defense. But there is one thing we all can agree on: in 20 years, the directors will be quickly forgotten, relegated to the dustbin of film-maker history, where they will rightfully take their place among the totally forgotten, unremarkable, and utterly meaningless film makers.
Description of Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (Extreme Unrated Set + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]Disc 1: Widescreen Feature Rated and Unrated Versions ***Commentary by Directors Colin and Greg Strause and writer Shane Salerno **Commentary by Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis Wayland Yutani Archives **D-Box **BD-Live Portal **Deleted Scene with Optional Director Commentary: 121-124 Extended Power Plant **Trailers: Jumper Blu-ray, Babylon AD Blu-ray, Hit Man Blu-ray **Fox on Blu-Ray: Alien Vs. Predator, Behind Enemy Lines, Planet of the Apes, Transporter Disc 2: Digital Copy For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press). Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita
