DVD Reviews of Alien Resurrection (Collector's Edition)DVD Review: Kind of a forced sequel but kind of fun 6/10 Summary: 2 Stars
Alien 3 wasn't a very popular movie love it or hate it, it was the end of the series but Joss Whedon wrote an Alien 4 screen play more or less an early draft which was suppose to have the character Newt cloned which FOX said "Well we got to have Sigourney Weaver back so she said yes for $11 million & this was the last Alien movie so far to feature Sigourney Weaver how do you bring Ripley back clone her of course. 20th Century FOX wanted David Cornenberg to direct he was an early choice which would've been cool he'd been better than this guy they got. David Giler was against making a 4th Alien movie. The guy they got finally was Jean Pierre Jaunett. This is the only movie of his I've seen. But it stars Sigourney Weaver of course, Winona Ryder as Call, Dominque Pinona as Vriess, Ron Peralman as Johner, Gary Dourdan as Christie, Michael Wincott as Frank Elgyn, Dan Hadaya as General Perez, Kim Flowers as Hillard & Brad Douriff as Dr Geidman. Story is 200 years after Alien 3 Scientists have cloned Ellen Ripley to get the Alien Queen that was in her. The opening in the special edition is different. I though the cloning idea was ok cause somebody was going to continue the work of The Weyland Yutani & this is the closest anybody had gotten to what they were trying to do to have the perfect soldier plus it worked cause The Government was involved. After
1 of the doctors says sew her up a added scene when Geidman I think is getting ready to do that she smashs his face against the plate glass 1 Scientist is using some kind of flash cards the reason I bring this up 1 card has a blond girl on it & this is a call back to Newt which that scene is put back in the special edition. When Dr Geidman is talking to RipleyWren comes into the room in an added scene he says thbat THe Weyland Yutani was bought out by Wal Mart. WTF? Were introduced to The Spade Pirates Elgyn, Vriess, Call Johner & Christie this had to be the most forgettable group until The AVP movies except for Ron Peralman Dourdan & Wincott this. The Basketball scene was cool where Sigourney Weaver hit the basketball from behind in fact there is a good story on it in the Alien Resurrection documentry. The Alien DNA mixed with her so she now has the acid for blood she can also detect if Aliens are near by also she can detect when a human is impregnated. The Aliens get loose by killing 1 of there own they start there escape & all h e l l breaks loose. Call is going to kill Ripley but we get a l es b i an sub text which I kind of liked lol. So Wren thinks Call is a terrorist we get a shoot out between The Pirates & wanna be Colonial Marines. Little bit later Gneeral Perez is killed in weird way you have to see it. 1 of the wanna be Colonial Marines is killed freezes him & now The Aliens are smart enough to press buttons Geidman is also grabbed by 1 of The Aliens Elgyn is killed. Ripley comes in from under the floor & she kills 1 of The Aliens it may have not been Sigourney in that scene but it was still Ripley. Basically they need to get to The Betty the Pirates ship & blow The USM Ariga up. They find this guy that has an Alien in him. Ripley then finds this room called 7 we find out why she has this 8 on wrist cause she was the 8th attempt of a clone & we see all these rejected clones. These are the freakest looking things. Ripley sees 1 on a table which is 1 of the more unique effects of this movie. Ripley takes a Flamethrower & torches the room. We get a line by Johner that I'm not a fan of "Must be a chick thing." Then we go to the best scene of the movie imo the underwater scene Hillard is killed in this part then they make it to a room filled with eggs Christie fires a gernade it was well shot where the gernade bounce off the ceiling & destroys all the eggs. Ripley gets a Facehugger on her though but she's Super Ripley now & kills it with her hands. The ladder scene was cool too Wren shoots Call he runs off we think she's dead no it turns out she's an Android. While climbing Christie is carrying Vreiss who is in a wheel chair Christie shoots an Alien the acid hits his face then he has to sacrifice himself to save his friend he cuts himself down & falls to his death. Johner hangs upside down & starts shooting Aliens that was cool. Now I didn't care for the idea of Call being an Android
you know it could've been an anti Govenment Vigilante. Also a mention of Newt was put back in the special edition it should've been left in. As they go to The Betty Ripley is grabbed & taken to the nest. Wren comes back & grabs Call Basically the guy that has The Alien in him attacks Wren it is another cool scene the chestburster pops out of the guy & through Wren's head. Dr. Geiman is still alive he's been cacooned & The Queen Alien can now give birth. We are introduced to a different kind of Alien The New Born it's like White it has eyes it's freaky looking a lot of people hate it but I don't mind it. It actually kills The Queen & then Dr Geidman. The New Born follows Ripley to The Betty DeStephno's head gets crushed by The New Born. It then tries to kill Call Ripley has a cut on her hand of course she has acid for blood & uses it on a window & again another airlock kill by Ripley. In the special edition Ripley & Call are on Earth & it looks like a wasteland. That's the movie. This is an ok movie I feel some of the stuff from the special edition should've stayed in. Also the original ending was suppose to have The Betty crash land on Earth Ripley & Call battle The New Born on a snowy mountain. It was never filmed due to budget reasons. Joss Whedon expressed disatisfaction with everything he felt like they did it wrong. A lot of it feels like it is a cliche Joss Whedon BS I'm not a fan of his The Space Pirates except for Ron Peralman, Michael Wincott & Gary Dourdan they felt like they belonged on Firefly or Serinity. FOX did ok with his script cause it wasn't that good. I feel he wasn't the right guy to write an Alien movie. Jaunette was so so for this movie. Sigourney Weaver was good as always. Ron Peralman for the dialoge that was written for him by Joss Whedon he was good. Brad Douriff was good for what he was given. Michael Wincott was pretty much in a wasted role Gary Dourdan was good. Dominque Pinon was annoying like when he is trying to be funny it falls flat. Winnoa Ryder was tolerable. Kim Flowers was alright. The CGI was off & on for me like some of The Aliens looked bad & when the New Born is going through the airlock it looked like Sega Genesis graphics. Some of the shots in space are pretty bad. I wish The Queen could've been used more. Some like Alien Resurrection more than Alien 3 but I feel it's not up there but compared to the AVP movies this is a masterpiece. Yep those are next.

Description of Alien Resurrection (Collector's Edition)ALIEN RESURRECT COLLECTORS EDIT 2PK S - DVD Movie Perhaps these films are like the Star Trek movies: The even-numbered episodes are the best ones. Certainly this film (directed by French stylist Jean-Pierre Jeunet) is an improvement over Alien 3, with a script that breathes exciting new life into the franchise. This chapter is set even further in the future, where scientists on a space colony have cloned both the alien and Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), who died in Alien 3; in doing so, however, they've mixed alien DNA with Ripley's human chromosomes, which gives Ripley surprising power (and a bad attitude). A band of smugglers comes aboard only to discover the new race of aliens--and when the multi-mouthed melonheads get loose, no place is safe. But, on the plus side, they have Ripley as a guide to help them get out. Winona Ryder is on hand as the smugglers' most unlikely crew member (with a secret of her own), but this one is Sigourney's all the way. --Marshall Fine
