DVD Reviews of Aerosmith - You Gotta Move (Amaray Case)

DVD Review: THEY RUINED IT !!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

Let me start by saying I am one of the biggest Aerosmith fans in the world. I've seen them on just about every tour since '76, and along with perhaps only the Rolling Stones, they are the premiere kick ass rock n' roll band in a live situation. Steve Tallarico's Dad, Victor, even taught me music in high school in Da Good Old Bronx and man I remember how proud his Pop was of him when they got their first Platinum record (Toys) and Steven bought Pops a brand new BMW cash. Steven are you reading this ? If so please drop me an e-mail. So of course it was with great expectation that I and everyone looked forward to this, their FIRST, and LONG OVERDUE, concert DVD.

Okay so they go through the mandatory self serving bull***t in the opening, talking about what it feels like to go onstage, the magic of the band on a great night, how they all click together, yada yada yada. OK great, get to the show. First song or 2 great, nice slick production, great video, great mix, great shots of all the hotties in the audience young and old, but I noticed they are talking over the opening chords of songs.
Then as we should be settling in like at a real show by the 3rd or 4th song, when we should be getting to the nitty gritty, this babbling nonsense between the songs is strarting to slowly give me a sinking feeling in my gut.

But the turning point came during "Draw The Line", one of my favorite live Aero songs. As Joe Perry prepares to go into his incredible slide guitar lead break..... the MUSIC fades down, a 2 box comes up of Tyler the talking head still talking about this or that nonsense, with the second box showing the band onstage and Perry is COMPLETELY drowned out and buried in the mix by this droning voice. Then the 2 box finally pulls back to full screen of the band and the music comes back up and we are given the special treat of enjoying the last 15 seconds of the Perry's lead break. This was the musical equivelant of getting interrupted during a sexual climax. I actually threw my shoe at my TV screen, took the disc out and winged it across the room like a frisbee, I was so freaking angry. I see in the opening credits that the band themselves are the Executive Producers of this DVD, which means THEY were responsible for overseeing the final edit. Then WHY WHY WHY, Aerosmith, did you have to go and RUIN what COULD HAVE BEEN the greatest live Rock n' Roll Concert DVD of all time with all your psycho babble in between and DURING songs ? WHY could you not have simply given us the complete uncut show, seamless, and put your interviews and commentary on a SEPERATE chapter of extras on the disc ?? I am still shaking my head in wonderment. I have been in Television Production for 20 years, and this smacks of a creative decision made by an amateur(s).
The little nuggets of music are there, the production is there, the video and audio quality are there, but it all fell apart in the Final Edit. Too bad, this disc could have been a real contender for top live concert DVD of all time. Instead it turned into an abortion. Please, next time, Aerosmith, (if there is one), give us the full show uninterrupted, like we were there.
