Blu-ray Review: Code Ridiculous

All in all, I enjoyed this movie and thought the acting by Jack Nicholson was superb and character lines were both powerful and comical. A rare combination in the movies made today.
But there is one thing that really bothers me about this movie, is the sense of ethics and morals is half-backwards and the military is portrayed unrealistically. For one thing, the movie tries to convince the audience that the two Marines accused of murder, should get off Scot free, since they were only given orders to assault Santiago, which lead to his accidental death. If Santiago was your son or your brother, would you feel the same? Hell no. Regardless if the two Marines were given orders or not for a "code red", they still unethically violently assaulted someone in their sleep and caused them to die. So they shouldn't get any jail sentence at all? Not realistic.
At the end of the movie, the two Marines get off with no prison sentence, a slap on the wrist, and a dishonorable discharge. One Marine whines in the courtroom "What did we do wrong?" Ok, if he is too dense to realize that he helped cause the death of a human being, then this moron shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets. Neither Marine showed any remorse toward Santiago's death and felt they were just taking orders. At the minimum these two idiots should have gotten 2 years in prison and been raped repeatedly by large hairy men.
Ok, lets put this in another perspective. If a Mob Boss tells two of his thugs to beat down a storeowner, for not paying a debt, does that mean the two thugs are not responsible, because they were only taking orders? Same thing for the two Marines. The orders they were given were violent and unethical, yet they only followed them for fear of their own well-being. So this makes it ok that they assaulted someone and they shouldn't take any responsibility?
In this movie, Tom Cruise is suppose to come across as the hero, for helping prevent two Morons from getting any jail sentence after causing the death of an innocent victim? Way to go Tom Cruise, in reality, you just glorified every scumbag lawyer in existence.
If Marines are just mindless Jar-heads taking orders, with no sense of right and wrong, then this movie is saying the military is completely corrupt and full of brain dead morons, which I don't believe is the case.
