DVD Reviews of 2007 Isle of Man TT reviewDVD Review: Worth owning, but could be better Summary: 3 StarsI have three Isle of Man DVDs (2004, 2006, and 2007) and while there are some good reasons to own these DVDs, there are also some significant problems which will limit how often I get the latest one. Each class at the race is shown in the exact same cookie-cutter fashion; interview a few of the top drivers in the paddock ("What are you going to do this race?" "I'm gonna drive real fast and try to win") Show some racing of the top 5 or 6 runners, then interview a few of the top finishers ("So, you finished in X place, how'd that go?" "well, I drove real fast but so-and-so drove faster.") Comparing the '04 and '05 discs to the 2007 disc, it might as well be the exact same footage, simply with different finishing orders. I'd like to see coverage of more than just the top riders, a little more creativity in the organization, and perhaps rethinking what interviews to include as they are mostly pointless.
The coverage of the racing is very impressive, and for that they can be proud. Included are lots of roadside cameras, on board cameras looking forward, backward, and at the driver, and even some shots from a helicopter. The resolution is quite nice; I hope they start filming in high def and releasing on Blu Ray (with LOSSLESS audio,) that would certainly reinvigorate my interest.
The extras are also fairly nice, if only for the complete onboard lap that they include. The following request is perhaps a bit morbid, but I'd like to see a collection of the crashes from the race week. No need to show crashes where the driver is killed, but I'm sure there are plenty of others that would be entertaining and informative.
DVD Review: Isle of Mann 2007 Summary: 4 StarsGood anniversary footage. SICK on board laps!!! Great to watch when you have that need for speed. Short interviews as well.
DVD Review: 2007 Isle of Mann TT review Summary: 5 StarsGrand stuff! Get ready to be amazed! Riders whizzing by stone walls at a 170 m.p.h. will grab your attention and gain your respect.
This is motorcycle racing in it's purest form. Wild speeds on closed public roads. At the Isle of Mann there is no run out like on a moto GP course, low side here and there is no airfence at the end of your slide. Hey, don't get me wrong I love watching GP racing and it's no walk in the park, this is just a different breed of cat.
The commentary is a hoot! The announcers truly love the sport. Thier easy style lends a nice balance to the knife edge competition and danger. I really liked the casual aplomb of their quips.
2007 being the 100th anniversary of this event made this year and this review historically significant. There are some good special features highlighting the original bikes with great footage of a wide variety of machines from the past. On board camera shots put video games to shame.
I was a little confused about the compatibility of these discs with my DVD player. This item is listed as "non DVD". NTSC is the North American format and they worked fine in my player.
Motorcycles as life blood. Fever pitch at the Isle of Mann. Life on the edge. Kick ass poetry in motion!
